So you’re thinking of homeschooling, huh?
Have you been curious as to why homeschooling may be better for your family? Or maybe you’ve spent countless hours searching the web trying to find all the pros and cons of homeschooling.
No matter the reason here are 6 compelling reasons you should consider homeschooling your little one and why you may leave thinking it’s even better than traditional schooling options.
First things first, since you are here, I know you have considered homeschooling, and I support you 100%.
This is not meant to be a knock on public education. I personally took part in Advanced Placement classes and the International Baccalaureate Program that provided me with an excellent education before my college career.
However, during that time, I saw numerous things that I wanted to change. And those things are still prevalent in today’s educational system and influenced my desire to homeschool.
Reason #1: Homeschooling can create a special bond with your children
One of the biggest perks of choosing to homeschool is the bond it can form between you and your child(ren).
It is also a wonderful way to build on the relationship between siblings.
The reality is you will spend most of your time with your child as their teacher. Teaching them, raising them, and so much more.
But the cool part is you get to step back and be their mom.
You can encourage, congratulate, and enjoy the “ah-ha” moment when they begin to grasp a concept or do a really great job.
You get to be a part of all the moments and not just the learning ones.
It is what makes homeschool rewarding.
Reason #2: You want to incorporate religion in your curriculum
One reason many families chose to homeschool is so they can integrate faith into their child’s education. Even if you decide to keep your secure it is still always a nice option to have.
Torn between if you want to include religion in your homeschool this post showcases the pros of choosing to keep religion out of your day-to-day curriculum.
While, religion isn’t the primary for many families to homeschool it could be for you.
A major pro to adding in religious curriculum is that it can keep them away from worldly related things as they are growing and maturing. As well as allowing a strengthening of their faith by being exposed to it daily.
Reason # 3: You would like control over what your child learns
CONTROL!
It can have such a negative connotation, but it is precisely what many mamas love about homeschooling. Many mamas realize there were so many things that could have been included in their education to make life easier as adults.
For example, how to do their taxes as an adult.
Another option is being able to teach life skills that are not included in traditional education.
For example, you can teach your child how to handle money (savings, retirement, etc.), how to manage time, and even promoting self-care for their mental health.
There’s a world of possibilities available to you as a homeschool parent and that is not something you want to take lightly.
It matters so much.
Tools to assist your homeschool journey:
Reason #4: Create a positive learning environment
Honestly, we all want our children to be able to go to school, have teachers who care, have up to date materials in good condition, and to have positive social experiences.
Unfortunately, that is not always the case.
Bullying is at an all-time high, especially with technology allowing many people to feel protected by anonymity. Teacher shortages are rampant around the country.
But homeschool is NOT meant to be a shield from the outside world.
In fact, it is the COMPLETE OPPOSITE.
This form of control is a major factor that pushes many families to homeschool especially if your child has learning disabilities or special needs.
Since homeschooling allows you to focus on their strengths and take time when needed to focus on their struggles it is the perfect classroom.
NCES (National Center for Education Statistics) “studies have proven that children who are homeschooled can actually withstand peer pressure better, are more tolerant of other’s differences, and have a better idea of their own self-image”.
On the flip side, homeschooling allows you the ability to deal with other issues like overcrowding and a negative environment from bullying or drugs/alcohol. While giving you the ability to have hands-on access to how/what they learn, and to develop a moral compass that will lead them to making better choices in the future.
Sounds amazing right? Because it is.
Reason #5: Your children can be more hands-on in their learning
A traditional classroom setting has students sitting at a desk reading over some form of textbook or workbook. A teacher will go over a lesson plan then leave students to do individual or group work.
This system does not work well for many children- no matter if you are a homeschool fan or not.
The BIGGEST PERK of homeschooling—it allows you to change that dynamic.
One of the universal focuses of homeschooling is your student having a hands-on role in their learning.
This hands-on practice can help students who learn differently. You can adapt to what ways of teaching work for them.
That is the FREEDOM of homeschool.
Reason #6: To provide a higher quality education
Generally speaking, if you are choosing to homeschool, you know it is not something that is a simple/quick fix. By this point, you should know it will take effort and time on your part no matter how freely you choose to teach your child.
If you are investing in homeschool you provide more than time. You are providing all the resources your child needs, purchasing supplies, paying for field trips, etc. Maybe even applying for certifications or submitting forms for requirements to your state.
Homeschooling helps prepare your child for a bright and powerful future.
Besides, this investment means you will do what you can to ensure their education is the best it can be.
Compelling enough?
