Decided to homeschool, huh? Well, I know what you’re thinking “how do I even get started homeschooling?”
Luckily you’ve come to the right place.
Here’s a quick and simple breakdown on how-to start homeschooling in 4 simple steps.
Because you’ve made an important decision for your family and here’s how to do it well.
How do I start homeschooling my child?
1. Research the law. 2. Set Goals. 3. Be organized. 4. Research everything else.
Let’s start with the one everyone thinks is the hardest first.
Step 1: Research the law
First, you want to research the law for your state. Homeschool laws vary by state, so what works for one homeschooler may not work for you.
Remember that when you ask for homeschool advice in your friendly Facebook groups.
Instead, check out HSDLA’s site. They provide some great information on the laws for each state that is easy to understand.
To start, make a list of any forms you need to complete and how often you need to complete them. In addition, if your child is currently enrolled in school take note of your state’s process to withdraw them and follow it.
Maybe you thought about not teaching a specific subject or wanted to do away with textbooks completely. Now is the time to ask all the questions.
Also, be sure to take note of relevant websites, phone numbers, and other resources you may need in the future.
Step 2: Set Goals
Once you know what you need to do to be state-compliant, now is time to set some goals.
Decide how often you will be homeschooling, which days, what hours, etc. Depending on your state you may have to follow a particular schedule or teach for a certain number of hours.
For a free schedule template, you can use in your homeschool and a preview of the one I created you can go here.
For that reason, you want to have a plan for what you will be teaching and how. There are several teaching methods available to parents.
You get to choose what works best for your family.
These three things are the groundwork for how to get your homeschool going. It gives you the foundation on what to do and how to do it properly.
Step 3: Be organized–
Moving on, now that you have your plans and goals figured out, you want to get organized. Although everyone has their preferences like a planner, a binder, or just some post-it notes you have to know what works for you.
Staying organized makes life less stressful and allows you to know where your important documents are at all times.
On that note, a great asset that you will love is the homeschool binder kit for busy mamas.
