How To Get Your Groove Back:
1. Create a Schedule
Many people swear they hate living by a schedule yet we don’t realize how much their life runs on routine.
It may be a loose go with the flow routine but it is still a routine nonetheless. You probably wake up around the same time everyday, brush your teeth, maybe eat breakfast or grab a coffee, then start your day.
The concept is the same for creating a homeschooling schedule. You want to create the foundation that you would like to work around.
Things come up. Children get bored. Parents need a break. This isn’t an all or nothing deal.
I have a homeschool schedule template that is FREE to you by clicking here.
The template has a Toddler/Pre-K scheduler as well as a K-5th scheduler. It’s very to the point, editable, and is available in black and white.

2. Get Organized
Now that you have your schedule taken care of you want to have a baseline of what things goal you would like to achieve for the upcoming school year.
I set my goals based on three things:
- Timing-I set a school year in two parts just like a normal school even though I suggest teaching year-round just doing more outdoor focus during the summer or while taking trips.
- So I go Aug to Dec then jam to may. And month to month create my schedule. The themes I want to cover and a very broad structure of how I want to teach those themes.
- Assessment-now I list what academic goals or benchmarks I want my student to be able to gain during those timeframes. For ex. Counting from 1-10 recognizing aba patterns, or writing their name on lined paper.
- Resources-is just simply getting all my educational plans and worksheets printed and together. What science experiments did I want to try or what fun arts &crafts did I find on Pinterest? What workbooks or printables am I using? Get all those items together and have them within easy access.
Now you can take all of these items and get organized. You want to keep the essentials of your planning in a homeschool binder or a folder. I organize my curriculum into folders and sort them according to a theme.
An easy to use tool is utilizing a homeschool binder kit then click here.
3. Breathe
Remember to stop, take a deep breath, and relax. I know you are worried but it is going to be ok.
Use every moment as a learning experience. Life happens. You will never be able to stick to your plan 100%.
On days where everything goes as planned, celebrate. Pat yourself on the back.
On days where they don’t think about what did you learn from it and how can it help you for next time. Or, reflect on if even though you didn’t get to focus on X did your student still learn something new and interesting.
If so, then that’s all that matters.
So remember:
Whether you have been homeschooling for years or if this year is going to be your first you can do this. The process is very simple create your schedule, get organized, and breath.
Your child is learning all the time. Use any impromptu changes to teach something. Don’t get overwhelmed by trying to force your expectations of school on your child it will all work out I promise.
